News Apps for Android - India

A list of few of the top free news apps for Android phones, with preference given to Indian apps.


  • BBC News : All the news from BBC in an app with a great interface. Once updates, articles can be read when offline. There are various sections (including South Asia, Sports etc) for all the news from the world and you can select which categories to display on the app. You can also listen to live audio from the BBC world news or watch video clips from the different news shows.  The app comes with a convenient widget on which you can look through the headlines from the home-screen.

  • NDTV : NDTV’s official app brings you all the news from India along with stock market updates and weather information. There is a widget with news and a ticker for live cricket scores or stock market statistics, but it does not always work smoothly. The app comes with a live tv section that works only on the high end android phones. You can watch NDTV24x7, NDTV India, NDTV Profit or NDTV Goodtimes right on your phone if you have a good 3G connection or are on Wifi.

  • TOI : This official app from the Times Of India comes with all the latest news from the Times of India with a simple interface. The app comes with photos and video clips along with a widget that is not very well designed.
  • Pulse : This is not exactly a news app. Pulse gathers the latest articles from variety of different sources and presents them together in a great interface. You can choose the sources from which you want your information ranging from news, tech, business, sports, entertainment or lifestyle. Unfortunately there aren’t many Indian sources, but if you like to have information from various international sources, this is the app to have. Once updated, you can read the articles when offline. The app also comes with a very useful widget.

  • India Online : This app basically contains links to the mobile websites of numerous Indian and International newspapers,  Sports websites and Tech sites. This app makes it convenient for you to browse through the different sources of news.
