Best Android Smartphones in India in the price range 10,000 to 15,000 INR

[Part of a guide to buying Android phones] This is the mid-range category with several good phones from different companies. Here are some of the better ones in this bracket:

1. Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman WT19i (₨ 13,750 on letsbuy.com):
One of the last phones from Sony Ericsson before it became simply Sony, this phone is hyped to be ideal for music lovers; and it comes with all other standard features as well. This phone, with a 3.2 inch touch screen, has Android 2.3 Gingerbread (upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when available) overlaid with Sony Ericsson’s Timescape user interface. The phone runs on 1GHz processor with a separate Adreno 205 GPU, which is perhaps the best in this price range. A 5MP back camera with LED flash capable of HD (720p) video recording comes along with a 0.3 MP front camera for self portraits or video calling. There is a 1200mAH (talk-time 14 hours on 2G, 6 hours on 3G) that does not seem to be up to mark. The phone has 320 MB expandable up to 32GB , FM Radio, 3G, GPRS, Edge, Wifi and DLNA support; video player and a music player along with xLoud Enhancement Engine for better sound quality. Besides the battery, this is a very good phone in this range, especially for music enthusiasts.

2. Samsung Galaxy Ace (₨ 12,900 on letsbuy.com):
The Galaxy Ace comes with a 3.5 inch touch screen and a 5 MP camera with LED flash that supports video recording. The phone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread (with Samsung’s Touchwiz interface) on a 800 MHz processor. The phone has a 1350 mAh battery and an internal memory of a 158 MB but can be expanded to 32GB using SD card along with standard GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, FM radio and GPS support, music and video player. This is a decent phone with a larger screen than the Galaxy Y phones and is one of the better options at this price range. However, you may want to look at Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus (At the bottom of this section in the Upcoming Phones area) before making any decision.

3. HTC Chacha (₨ 11,928 on infibeam.com):
This HTC phone comes with a physical  QWERTY keyboard with a dedicated facebook button and a 2.6 inch touchscreen display. The phone runs  Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense user interface. The phone runs on a 800MHz processor, has a 5MP back camera with LED flash along with a front camera and has a 1250mAh battery. HTC Chacha comes with a memory of 512 MB expandable up to 32 GB and supports the standard 3G, Edge, Wifi. Although it would not qualify as the best in the category, this phone is a good option for those desiring a QWERTY and more Facebook integration.

Other Phones to consider in this category:
HTC Wildfire S (₨ 13,500 on flipkart.com): An HTC phone with similar specification to the Samsung Galaxy Ace, but  with a slower processor (600Hz), a 3.2 inch touch screen and it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense interface.

Upcoming Phones to consider in this category:
Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus (₨ 15,500 on infibeam.com): Although this phone is already available, its price is a bit higher than this range. Expect the price of this phone to drop down soon. The phone is an upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Ace with a better processor (1 GHz with additional GPU) to give a better performance and added internal memory (3 GB).
