Best Android Smartphones in India in the price range 5,000 to 10,000 INR

[Part of a guide to buying Android phones] This is the entry level for good android phones. Although there are cheaper Android phones available, such as Spice Mi-270 (₨ 3,465 on flipkart.com) or Micromax Andro A-60 (₨ 4,400 on flipkart.com), they run older versions of Android and do not have the hardware for a good enough user experience for a smartphone. If you decide to skip these even cheaper options, then here is the list for the best low end Android phones:

1. Samsung Galaxy Y (₨ 7,490 on infibeam.com):
By far the most ‘value for money’ phone in this category right now. It is a small device with a 3 inch touch screen and a 2 MP (megapixel) camera with video recording at the back which is not great but good enough for the price it is available at. The phone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which may not be the latest version available, but is definitely the latest version available on a phone costing less than ₨ 20,000. Samsung’s Touchwiz interface is also present adding extra functionality. The phone runs on a 832 MHz processor, which should guarantee good performance, and claims to have a decent battery with 6 hours of talking and 120 hours of standby time. Phone comes with internal memory of a small 160 MB but can be expanded to 32GB using SD card. GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, FM radio and GPS are supported and there is a music and video player.
Although not a great phone by itself, at the price it sells at, it packs a decent performance with all the features of s smartphone such as internet browsing, facebook and other social networking sites integration. Overall, a good buy at the price it is available at. A good entry level phone.

2. LG Optimus Pro C660 (₨ 7,999 on flipkart.com):
This is not the cheapest LG android phone (LG Optimus Me), but it comes with better features and Android 2.3 Gingerbread and a full QWERTY keyboard making it worth considering. It has a 2.8 inch display but comes with more hard keys than the usual Samsung Galaxy Y, making the phone bigger overall. The phone has a decent for the price 800MHz CPU, 1500 mAH battery (13 hours talktime, 852 hours of standby), internal memory of 150 MB expandable up to 32GB, 32MP camera along with FM Radio, 3G, GPRS, Edge, Wifi and DLNA support and music and video player.

This phone is suitable for those requiring a QWERTY keyboard and a decent phone at a good price.

3. Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos (₨ 9,500 on flipkart.com):
Newly released in India, this is a dual-SIM phone with a physical  QWERTY keyboard and a 2.4 inch touchscreen display. The phone comes with a 3 MP back camera and a 0.3 MP front camera for self portraits or video calling. Rest of the features are similar to those in the Samsung Galaxy Y. So if you are someone who needs a dual-SIM phone, QWERTY or the improved camera support then this phone is recommended over the Samsung Galaxy Y.

Other Phones to consider in this category:
Samsung Galaxy Y Duos (₨ 8,990 on flipkart.com): Similar to Galaxy Y, but with dual SIM support a 3MP camera - no QWERTY or front camera.
LG Optimus Net (₨ 8,712 on infibeam.com): 3.2 inch HVGA touchscreen display, 3MP camera. Other specifications are similar to those foe similar to LG Optimus Pro, but no QWERTY. A slightly bigger option to Samsung Galaxy Y.
